HP Business Availability Center Implementation (BAC)

The Challenge

A major cable operator was facing outages and performance issues on critical customer facing applications. Their existing infrastructure provided poor visibility into application performance and end user experience, and lacked effective ways to triage issues and determine the root cause of the outages.

The Solution

pureIntegration led a cadre of performance specialists that worked closely with the client’s operations team through the following major activities:

Analysis

    • Tool Analysis – Helped the client identify the best tools available to address the issues they faced, eventually selecting the HP Business Availability Center (BAC) software suite.
    • Education – Worked closely with project owners to educate stakeholders about the capabilities of the HP BAC solution and helped them define and prioritize their requirements.
    • Proof of Concept – Established a working performance solution instance which demonstrated the solution’s capabilities within the client environment.

Program Planning

    • Project planning – Established an approach, defined the schedule and set priorities for implementing the selected solution.
    • Capacity planning – Created a plan to ensure the solution is capable of handling the necessary volume for today’s needs as well as the future needs.
    • Workflow – Worked with the project owners to establish a framework (templates, on-boarding documents, etc.) for planning and prioritizing future monitoring requests.

Implementation & Adoption

    • Implementation – Implemented the HP BAC monitoring solution, including dashboards, reports and alerts to identify application outages, reduce downtime and improve triage capability.
    • Integration – Integrated existing monitoring solutions into the solution’s reports and dashboard, reducing implementation time and ensuring consistency across all operational groups.
    • Training – Provided training to operational teams regarding day-to-day operation and support of the performance solution, including future monitoring development and solution adaption.

The Business Benefits

With pureIntegration’s help, the client was able to extend outage detection and performance monitoring for critical business processes, providing end-to-end visibility to applications and downstream systems. Improved root cause identification reduced the resources involved in issue triage and resolution. In addition, legacy monitoring systems were transitioned to HP BAC resulting in improved maintenance and monitoring capabilities. Furthermore, the HP BAC implementation laid the ground work for supporting 40 additional applications which the client plans to monitor using HP BAC in the near future.
